President's Message

Wow, I can't believe it's 2012 already! I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas and New Year's Celebration. Now that the Christmas Season is behind us, we can all focus on our business again and start looking towards spring. We have some great speakers lined up for this year and are looking at doing some more networking meetings as this was a real hit with our members.  We were able to showcase our businesses  and got to know each other a lot more.  We want to support each other and refer each other as much as possible so it is important that we get to know what we all do.  This will be a benefit to all our members, including you.  This year we want to grow the BPWN and introduce new businesses to our meetings so we are encouraging our members to bring guests to each meeting.  There will be a great reward for the member that has the most guests joine the BPWN; a complimentary one year membership including all meals!

BPWN's January Speaker:  "Women and Money" presented by Shari Molchan!

She knows that a lot of women, for whatever reason, cannot liberate themselves from the guilt, the avoidance, and the fear they have around money.  Too many women are frustrated, embarrased, and feel helpless about their financial situation.  Shari will show you that the only difference between where you are now and where you can be is belief; pure and simple. When you begin to believe in yourself, you are going to experience success you can hardly imagine today.

The concept of money comes with a lot of baggage for most. Your deep-rooted thoughts and beliefs about money may be holding you back. Shari will help you feel more satisfied and confident about your money decisions so you can get out of your money rut and feel empowered when it comes to money. If you would like to change your relationship with money or struggle less and enjoy life more, then don't miss this meeting!

Sheila Fiscus - Wine With Us

What do you do?  I make wine for a living.

Why do you do it? I was a banker for 25 years and I needed a change. I felt that I could bring something a little different to the wine-making business in Campbell River.

What are my passions? I am not passionate about anything in particular. I just try to live every day to the fullest.

What is my personal and professional philosophy?  Personally - Do what you want to do as soon as you can do it. Professionally - Be nice to people and always have a smile!

What makes my business different? Our shop is a fun place to be and, did I mention, that we make great wine, coolers, and ciders!

What is my definition of success?  Being happy in your own little world.

What do I do for fun?  Travel as often as I can.  Even a trip down island counts.

In-House Bursary Announcement

In keeping with the Campbell River Business & Professional Women's Business Network motto, "Women Empowering Women", the BPWN will offer one bursary. This bursary is offered to encourage and support any BPWN member who wishes to enhance their curent skills and assist in their professional development.

The course must be from an accredited institution, professionally recognized group or association.  The member must not have been awarded the bursary in the past two years or at the Board's discretion.

Bursary Criteria

1. You must be a member in good standing for a minimum of one year.
2. Be willing and prepared to participate fully in the bursary process.
3. Be willing to do a small presentation of the learning, as a result of the bursary, to the general membership.
4. Be willing to demonstrate, in writing, the benefits of receiving this bursary and teh impact it has/will have in your work/business.

In your own words, please describe how this training will be supporting you to achieve your professional goals.  Digital copy and current jpg. photo is also required. The winner will be announced at the regular dinner meeting scheduled in May.  If you have any questions, please contact the BPWN Executive.
